2. A New Federal regulation regarding children wearing Life Preservers (PFD's) goes into effect on August 31, 2004.

Basically the Regulation states:

No person may operate a recreational vessel under way with any child under the age of 13 aboard unless such child is:

  • Wearing an appropriate USCG approved Life Jacket, or the child is below decks or in an enclosed cabin.

  • Where a State Law regarding wearing of Life Preservers (PFD's) is different from this Federal regulation, the State Statute will prevail in waters under that state's jurisdiction.

If a State has no regulatory requirements regarding Life Preservers (PFD's) and children, the Federal Statute will apply.

3. Some Safe Boating Tips:

Before each tripe file a float plane with a relative or friend so someone will have an idea of where to look if you do not return. When you return let the person holding your float plan know.  (FLOAT PLAN CENTRAL) More information on Float Plane.
